SOUTH Lanarkshire Council’s arts development and museums access teams are collaborating on an exciting new project aimed at celebrating the legacy of Hamilton Palace.
They are extending an invitation to all local community arts groups to go along and get involved in the project ‘Treasures of the Lost Palace’.
Hamilton Palace was internationally famous for its collection of fine art and object d’art – a veritable treasure trove of amazing paintings, furniture and artefacts – which travellers came from far and wide to admire.
Since the Palace was lost in the 20th century, these treasures have been dispersed throughout the world and many items are prime exhibits in important institutions such as the National Museums of Scotland and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, USA .
So, if you belong to a community arts group involved in the visual arts, creative writing, drama, music or local history and are keen to get involved in an exciting multi-arts project that celebrates your heritage, the teams would be delighted if you could join them for the initial consultations at one of the following venues: the Low Parks Museum at 129 Muir Street, Hamilton, on Monday, January 18, between 1 and 3pm, or the Town House, 102 Cadzow Street, Hamilton, on Tuesday, January 26, between 6 and 8pm.
Please telephone or e-mail to confirm your attendance at either venue by January 15 to ensure your seat. Refreshments will be available.
