Firm believer in community spirit

AFTER a year of spreading goodwill an East Kilbride company plans to continue celebrating the community spirit in 2009.

Builders’ merchant Travis Perkins, based in College Milton, last year brought a smile to the faces of children at Kirktonholme Nursery.

Staff at the branch volunteered to spruce up and make safe a play area there. They repaired and painted the fence and put play bark down.

It was part of the Travis Perkins Group’s 1000 Projects initiative which encourages employees to donate their time and talent to benefit their local community. The Kirktonholme Nursery project was among more than 540 completed nationwide and more are planned for 2009. David Manning, internal communications manager, said: “The response from our branches has been overwhelming. It’s fantastic to see the teams showing such community spirit.”
