Pirates head up Super Bowl party

EAST Kilbride Pirates will be holding their fifth annual Super Bowl party this weekend in Glasgow.

Our town’s only American Football team will host the party on Sunday at Campus on Sauchiehall Street and are hoping sports fanatics will join them for their big night.

The Super Bowl is the most important event in the American Football calendar and will decide the National Football League (NFL) champion for the 2009 season.

This year's event is the 44th annual championship, and sees first-time Super Bowl finalists New Orleans Saints face off against favourites Indianapolis Colts at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida.

The party starts at 8pm, with the big game scheduled to kick off at 11.30pm.

Entry is free, and half-time entertainment will be provided by the Pirates, who will be holding one of their infamous raffles to raise money for the team.

Matthew Davies, chairman of the East Kilbride Pirates, told the News: “The Super Bowl is the biggest night of the year for the NFL, and is one of the world's most-watched sporting events. This is a fantastic opportunity to come along and watch the game in style with Scotland's number one team, and help us raise funds for the 2010 season.”
