Wicked weather wipes out weekend sports card

IT was a weekend of washouts for East Kilbride’s sporting teams this week with all major events postponed due to bad weather.

The strong gusts of wind and heavy downpours that prevailed throughout last week put an end to East Kilbride rugby club’s hopes of claiming their first home win of the season.

They were scheduled to play Dalziel on Saturday, but a waterlogged pitch meant that would never happen.

They will now have two games to reschedule after their match with Annan was postponed earlier in the season.

Elsewhere, East Kilbride Thistle’s match away to Kilsyth Rangers fell foul of the horrendous conditions and they will now look forward to a friendly match with Royal Albert at the Showpark on Saturday.

Kick-off is 2pm and they will be hoping the unreliable Showpark pitch will survive another week of brutal weather.

Still on the football front, a number of the boys’ and girls’ football league matches were postponed – even some of those played on all-weather pitches.

And both the ladies hockey teams had to postpone their league matches. The ladies’ first team were due to play Glasgow University at Duncanrig on an all-weather pitch, but the powerful gusts of wind ensured the match was postponed.

It was the same story for the ladies’ second string side when they travelled to Ardrossan.

Here’s hoping for a storm-free weekend this time around.
