TORRANCE House Golf Club played host to some of Scotland’s top young golfers earlier this month as they held their Junior Open competition.
There were various titles up for grabs with Torrance House members collecting some of the top prizes.
In the Junior Girl competition Torrance House’s Kirsten Brown was the champion after a round of 68 with Strathaven Golf Club’s Veronica McLuskey finishing as runner-up.
And there was more good news for Torrance House as Chris Lang took the Division One trophy with a round of 68, two shots ahead of Lenzie Golf Club’s Callum Fyfe in second place.
Andrew Cunnigham of Whitecraigs Golf Club took the Division Two title with a round of 57, while in the Division Three nine-hole event, Torrance House celebrated a treble with Sharan Maiya the winner on 21 points, followed by Euan Martin and Callum Paterson in third.
The event was boosted by some much-needed sponsorship from Zucca Ristorante and the winner of the Zucca Cup with a fabulous score of 77, less 20 for a 57, was Andrew Cunningham from Whitecraigs Golf Club.
Meanwhile, winner of the Odyssey challenge putting competition, a prize of an Odyssey putter (put up by some of the Torrance House members), was Josh Beaton from Fereneze Golf Club.
Dominic Dougan of Colville Park was the scratch winner with a 77.
It was a great day of golf and JD Welsh, junior convener at Torrance House’s Junior Academy, was delighted with the success of the competition.
He told the News: “The weather was perfect and the course was in tremendous condition. The junior golfers had a wonderful time with loads of prizes up for grabs thanks to Marcus and Yacine of Zucca's and some generous donations from our members.
“We are confident in saying our Junior Open is one of the best Junior events in Lanarkshire and now with Zucca’s backing we feel we can go on to be one of the best in Scotland.
“It was especially pleasing to see so many girls playing on the day and, as with all our efforts, we have a great team of organisers and the full backing of our committee and members.”
