MARC WARREN made a promising start to the new season after claiming a respectable finish at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championships on Sunday.
The 27-year-old from Stewartfield had a torrid time last season after splitting from his long-term coach Bob Torrance but showed glimpses of his old form at the end of last season under new coach Ian Ray.
And at the weekend, Marc made a good start to the 2009 season with an 11-under-par finish at the Abu Dhabi Championships.
With a course par of 72, Marc recorded a round of 70 and 69 on Thursday and Friday respectively to make the cut.
He followed that with rounds of 70 and 68 to finish tied for 26th place with Pelle Edberg, Richard Green, Alvaro Quiros, Jyoti Randhawa and Jeev Milkha Singh.
The honorary Torrance House Golf Club member claimed winnings of 13,752 Euros and was the third best-placed Scot behind Paul Lawrie and Scott Gallacher, who finished in joint 20th place.
He finished 11 places ahead of fellow Scot and possible Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie.
England’s Paul Casey won the event and the quarter of a million Euros prize with a 21-under-par score.
Marc will continue his tour of the Persian Gulf when he travels to Doha in Qatar to play in the Commercialbank Qatar Masters. The event takes place between Thursday, January 22, and Sunday, January 25 and Marc will be hoping for another good finish against another strong field.
