Ryan saves the day to win cup

ST ANDREW'S and St Bride's High School’s under-16 football team had to rely on a dramatic penalty shootout to ensure victory in the Lanarkshire County Cup over St Ambrose High.

In a thrilling encounter at the Showpark, St Andrew's and St Bride's were twice behind but came back on both occasions with goals from James Cameron and Jamie Eastwood.

After extra time the sides were still locked at 2-2 and so spot-kicks were needed to decide the destination of the victory shield.

And the sides needed three rounds of penalty kicks before St Andrew's and St Bride's emerged victorious to win 9-8 in the shootout.

Everyone played well on the night but a special mention should go to goalkeeper Ryan Mailey who not only saved a number of penalty kicks, but also converted his own penalty.
