EK Thistle Girls perform well despite their double defeat to Accies

BOTH East Kilbride Thistle’s Girls teams suffered defeats at the hands of Hamilton Accies at the weekend, despite the local sides playing some good football.

The East Kilbride Whites team went down 6-3 to the Accies’ Red team.

The Thistle team suffered an early set back when Accies scored straight from the kick-off.

However, East Kilbride responded in the right way and a series of passes led to Jamie-Lee Dearie watching her superb strike hit the back of the net.

But the physical strength of Hamilton proved crucial as the muscled their way to a 3-1 lead at half-time.

In the second half Thistle started to apply considerable pressure to the Accies defence and Amy O'Kane scored a fantastic goal as delicately chipped the Accies goalkeeper from outside the area.

But East Kilbride faltered soon after and basic defensive errors allowed Hamilton to grab three quick-fire goals before Amy O'Kane scored a consolation with a great solo effort, claiming the player of the match award as well.

Elsewhere, the Thistle Blues side lost 5-4 to the Hamilton Whites after running the league leaders all the way. Highlight was a free kick from Carla Boyce, a strike so sublime it could have graced any Match of the Day.
