If you have a spare £1000 you could be going out to dinner with Pam Thorburn – as the Strathaven skier has unveiled some novel ways of raising sponsorship money for her 2014 Winter Olympics bid.
The 26-year-old needs to raise a whopping £35,000 to complete a full season in ski-cross and Pam has set up a sponsorship page on her website with incentives for any would-be sponsors.
Ranging from £15 to £5000, those wishing to give Pam a helping hand will receive a giveback in return for their support. These include:
Donate £100+ – Pam will make you a personalised video to thank you for your donation.
Donate £1000 + – Pam will make a personal appearance at a business event, school prize-giving, or ski session OR you can take the option to enjoy “chill time” with the skier. Her website says: “Lets go to the gym, a bike ride, or even grab some dinner.”
Donate £5000+ – the top ‘giveback’ gives you the chance to watch Pam race. Two people can come to one of her World Cup events at one of Europe’s top ski resorts and watch her battle it out for Olympic qualification, all expenses paid.
Pam told the News: “There’s been no offers for dinner yet but I have had some people come back with pretty fun ideas. I had one guy who wanted to take me sky-diving – I’m down for that.
“With this new donation site I’m trying to make it easier for people to get involved and if they want, help out for a fraction of the cost of a sponsorship, with a giveback in there too.”
