The family of a man who died in hospital after being found seriously injured in a city street have said words cannot express their loss.
Two passers-by discovered John McMurchie, 50, in Fintry Terrace, near its junction with Whitfield Drive, in Dundee at about 4am on Sunday.
He was taken to the city's Ninewells Hospital, where he died a short time later.
Tayside Police are treating the death as suspicious and said a 63-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the investigation.
In a statement released through police, Mr McMurchie's family said: "As a husband, brother, father to five and grandfather to two, as well as an uncle, John was loving and very much loved by all of his family.
"No words can express the loss that we feel at him being taken from us so suddenly.
"John had a terrific personality and was very much a larger than life character that was happy to be the life and soul of the party.
"At the same time, he was always there for those around him and would help anyone who needed his support or help.
"It is important that we know how John died and we would ask that anyone who knows anything that can help Tayside Police with their investigation to contact them."
Mr McMurchie was from Errol in Perthshire. Police are conducting door-to-door inquiries and appealing for information as they try to piece together Mr McMurchie's last movements.
