Better use of consultants urged

The Scottish Government can save up to £13 million a year if it made more efficient use of consultants, according to a new report.

Audit Scotland estimated that government bodies spend an estimated £114 million on consultancy services in 2006-07. It also estimated that in that year government bodies used more than 1,200 consultancies.

There is no clear strategy for the use of consultants, the report said, and added that the savings can be found if the planning, management and purchasing of consultancy services was improved.
