Commuters watched in horror as a man was hit by a train at Hairmyres railway station.
John Docherty, 22, is believed to have been killed instantly when he was hit by the 12.26 East Kilbride to Glasgow train at around 12.30pm last Wednesday (December 19).
The incident happened as the train made its way to Thorntonhall.
NHS Lanarkshire confirmed to the News , John, from Larkhall, was being treated at the nearby Hairmyres Hospital.
A spokesman said: “This is a very tragic case and our sympathies go out to the family.
“We can confirm that we will be conducting a full review of the incident.”
British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the line at Hairmyres after receiving reports of a person being knocked down by a train.
BTP and Strathclyde Police attended the scene said there were no suspicious circumstances.
A BTP spokesman said: “Medics from the Scottish Ambulance Service attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A report will be compiled and sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
The Scotrail service terminated two stops from the tragic scene at Busby station following the incident. There was disruption to rail services for nearly two hours while investigators worked at the scene.
Horrified East Kilbride passengers, who were bussed from Busby to Glasgow following the incident, expressed their shock and sorrow at the tragedy.
One woman, who did not wish to be named, said: “It’s so tragic to happen at this time of year, my thoughts are with his family.”
Another passenger said: “I feel for his family, and the poor driver. It was such a shocking thing to experience.”
