After School Club hosts a family fun night

A holiday in Spain for two adults was one of the generous prizes in a raffle held by Strathaven After School Club during their fundraising family night in the town’s Scout and Guide Hall.

The holiday, which was donated by one of the club members’ parents Sharon McCormack, was top prize in the raffle.

The family night proved a fantastic event and included a disco, tombola and children’s competitions .

As a result of the night £600 was raised.

Half the cash will be spent on new toys, resources and equipment for the after school club and the remaining £300 will be donated to Dreamflight, a charity which takes more than 190 seriously ill and disabled children each year on a 10-day holiday of a lifetime to Orlando, Florida.

The youngsters are accompanied by doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and non-medical volunteers who give round-the-clock care to the children.

Club anager Fiona Bartholomew said: “We are delighted to have raised such a fantastic amount of money for such a worthwhile charity. I would like to say a huge thanks to everyone who helped make this night a success.”

Laura Swift, a nurse who volunteers with Dreamflight, visited the club to be presented with the cheque for £300.

She showed the children a short film of this year’s trip to help them understand how their money will be spent.

Full details of how donations can be made and more information about the charity are available at www.dreamflight.org.
