MUM vowes to shave head if she raised £1000 for Yorkhill
A MUM is planning to have a close shave to raise funds for charity if she can raise at least s1000 for Yorkhill Hospital that is.
Rachel Sproat, 21, from the Village has vowed to have all her hair shaved off for charity after her 20-month-old son Declan was treated at Yorkhill when he was born with breathing difficulties in November, 2010.
Proud mum Rachel and partner William had no idea there was anything wrong during her pregnancy.
And although he weighed in at a healthy 8lbs 14ozs, doctors realised that Declan couldnt breath unaided and that his airways were full of mucus.
At just five days old Declan was transferred to Yorkhill where it was discovered that his voice box hadnt formed properly and was lying on his airways.
Just a few days after being transferred to Yorkhill from Wishaw General Hospital, Declan underwent laser surgery and Rachel now describes him as her great, cheeky little boy.
After donating items to be auctioned on Yorkhills Facebook page she decided she wanted to go a step further.
Declan is now doing great and I want to give back to them for all their help.
I will shave my hair if I make at least s1000 but what ever I make will go back to Yorkhill who couldnt have been more supportive.
It was extremely hard as I was going back and forward between my mums, as she was looking after my daughter Sophia, and the Neo-Natal Unit at Yorkhill.
And when I had to take Sophia to Yorkhill by myself, due to the shifts my partner was working, they even kept her entertained for me.
And although Rachel said she isnt too worried about losing her shoulder-length locks for a good cause, she does admit that she is a little nervous.
I am not someone who straightens my hair every day or anything but I am a little nervous about what I will look like bald.
Everyone is being really supportive although my little sister, Chelsea, was ever so slightly shocked when I told her what I was planning.
And hopefully my boyfriend will still love me even if I am bald - mind you, he doesn't have a choice in the matter really, joked Rachel.
She added: Please dig deep and donate now to such a good cause.
