EAST Kilbride and District Shopmobility held their annual sponsored wheelchair walk recently.
The event coincided with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend.
There was a great turnout for the sponsored wheelchair walk of over 70 people on the day who all enjoyed walking or using mobility equipment to get round the James Hamilton Heritage Park and Loch.
The shop mobility scheme’s manager Lesley MacIntyre told the News that it had been lovely to see people of all ages supporting this local charity and raising much-needed funds at the same time.
After the walk the children who took part were awarded with a certificate and then everyone enjoyed a lovely picnic which was provided by the charity.
Lesley added: “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in our annual sponsored wheelchair walk.
“To date we have raised the amazing sum of £1600 with some money still to come in.
“It was lovely to see so many people turn up on the date to support the event.
“I would also like to thank the staff at the James Hamilton Heritage Park and South Lanarkshire Council for accommodating our walk and also for erecting a gazebo on the day so we could enjoy our picnic under cover, it was a very nice gesture by them.”
