STRATHAVEN people are looking forward to a number of special events in the run-up to the Christmas. festivities
The first of these takes place this Sunday when the town’s Christmas tree lights will be switched on in the Common Green at approximately 4pm.
St Andrew’s Hospice have been running the 'Light up a Life' appeal for many years now within the town and once again local people are being encouraged to sponsor a light on the tree in memory of a loved one.
All money raised will go to the hospice.
The following Sunday, December 11, is the highly-popular Reindeer Day when Santa and his reindeers are coming to town.
To celebrate the occasion, Strathaven will be transformed into a Chrismas market, giving local people and visitors will have the chance to enjoy extended Christmas shopping at local businesses and the many and varied stalls.
Santa is scheduled to arrive in Strathaven around noon when he will be going walkabout meeting lots of boys and girls.
He will then be available in his grotto where children can visit him and tell him what they want for Christmas.
There will also be a post box outside the grotto where youngsters can leave a letter for Santa to read later.
The reindeers will be in Allison Green from 1pm and then they will be hitched to Santa’s sleigh around 2pm for the parade around the Common Green.
Joining the parade will be local schoolchildren singing favourite Christmas carols.
Anyone wanting to take a stall for the day or who can spare a few hours to help as a steward or in any other way, is asked to please contact Roger Lee of Adam’s Community Trust on 01357 522636.
Both the Christmas lights and Reindeer Day events are now run by Adam’s Community Trust on behalf of the communities of Strathaven and District.
The sustainability of these events, and ones like them, rely on the time and effort generously given for free by volunteers and groups in the local community.
Please help support future events for the town by considering a small donation of £2 per family for a programme and a chance to win a great prize.
