Police urge EK motorists to be on the alert after vehicle crime

Sometime between noon on Friday, May 6, when the driver left the vehicle locked and secured and 6.30am on Monday, May 9, an attempt was made to steal a yellow Legend DAF Convoy van from Shaftesbury Court, Calderwood.

The thief forced the driver’s door to gain entry and tried to strip the ignition barrel in an attempt to steal the vehicle.

When that failed he made off with the CD player.

A similar attempt was made to steal a car from Carron Place in Kelvin Industrial Estate between 1pm and 9.30pm on Tuesday, May 10.

Again the thief tried to strip the ignition barrel unsuccessfully.

Overnight between 10.30pm on Sunday, May 8 and Monday, May 9, a taxi parked at Bowden Park, Westwood, was broken into.

Entry was gained by smashing a window and the data head system which records the driver’s bookings, was stolen.

And a woman driver suffered a double whammy.

Following an accident around 6.30am on Friday, May 6, her red Ford Fiesta ended up in a field on the Muirkirk road near Strathaven.

When she returned to collect it around noon on Wednesday, May 11, she discovered the 04-plate vehicle had gone.
