THIS year’s ‘Wee Heilan’ in Chapelton will have a new venue.
The agricultural show, which is scheduled to be held on Saturday, August 21, will take place at South Flakefield Farm, Chapelton, by courtesy of Ian Leggate.
The show committee are now making the final arrangements and enquiries and entries for the cattle, sheep and homecraft sections should be made to secretary Jimmy Anderson at High Drumclog Farm, Strathaven, ML10 6QL, telephone 01357 440487.

The committee would like to welcome back former exhibitors as well as newcomers.
Chapelton Cattle Show is a confined show and only open to people who live within the village of Chapelton and the parishes of Glassford and East Kilbride and from Laigh Muirhouse to Muttonhole Road End and Hairybog.
This year’s judges will be: Ayrshire Cattle – Mr Willlie Currie, Haughhead Farm, Hamilton; Holstein/Friesian Cattle – Mr Jimmie Baillie, Over Dalserf Farm, Ashgill, Larkhall; Prime Cattle –Mr John Hope, South Brownhill Farm, Caldermill, Strathaven; sheep –Mr Jimmy Elliot, Burnside Farm, Dungavel; homecrafts – members of Muirkirk Women’s Rural Institute; dogs – Mrs Beth Sadler, Main Street, Chapelton; Champion of Champion – Mr Sandy Semple, Threestanes Farm, Strathaven: ponies – Mrs Fiona Anderson, Chapelton.
As well as all the best in local livestock on view, attractions at the show will include a five-a-side football tournament. This will be run in three age groups – for eight to 12-year-olds, 12 to 16-year-olds and 16 and over. It is open to anyone in the Chapelton Show area or associated with the show. All male or female teams can be entered before the show by contacting Jimmy Anderson on 01357 440487. The competition will start around 11am with the finals being played after the parade at approximately 3pm.
There will also be a bouncy castle, giant slide, candy floss stall, a display and parade of vintage agricultural machinery from Avon Valley Vintage Power and a display by the Morag Fraser School of Highland Dancing around 2pm after the grand parade.
A courtesy bus will be running at regular intervals throughout the day from Chapelton Pub car park to the show field at South Flakefield. The first bus will leave the Chapelton Pub car park at 11am and the last bus will leave the show field at 5pm.
