BOYS at an East Kilbride hip hop class are proving they’ve got what it takes to dominate the dance floor.
But one talented youngster is making sure the girls are still well and truly represented.
Five-year-old Mya McDade and the Dance Central crew swept the boards at a recent hip hop competition in Grangemouth.
Every one of the 30 boys who took part in the event returned home with a trophy and little Mya didn’t let the side down when she landed the top prize in her age group.
The boys-only hip hop dance class, run by Mya’s mum Elaine Wedlock, is proving to be increasingly popular with boys in East Kilbride, Blantyre and Hamilton.
Elaine hopes Mya’s recent success will attract more girls to the class, which takes place every Friday at the West Kirk in the Village.
She said: “I have been running the class in East Kilbride for almost a year now and it’s proving to be very popular with the boys. Mya is the only girl involved in her age group and it would be fantastic if more young girls came along.
“We have more competitions coming up in the near future and we are already getting ready for our annual show, which takes place at the Village Theatre in June.
“The boys are amazing and loving every minute of the classes but it’s about time more girls got involved too.”
