A former security guard who claims to be the saviour of mankind is to contest the East Kilbride seat at next year’s General Election.
Self-confessed prostitute user John Houston says he is the next ‘true leader’ of the human race and declares himself more important than Jesus and the Prophet Mohammed.
The divorced West Mains father-of-one aims to stand as a member of a new party he is hoping to create called the Theocratic Movement.
And one of their main policies is to legalise prostitution and allow civil servants four ‘free’ visits to brothels every year in recognition of their contribution to society.
They would also decriminalise all drugs.
This will be the second General Election in a row that the madcap former Green Party and UKIP member has contested. In 2005 he received 160 votes.
Mr Houston, who has written two books on his philosophical prophecies, told the News: “I am the prophet of a new age, a new global civilisation. The first major step towards that will be the re-building of the British Empire.
“In a successful civilisation you need a ruling class and I consider myself to be the true leader.
“There will be a mass extinction event in 2242 affecting the human race and that’s when we will see real change.
“However, I am not standing in the election to gain power, I am doing it because it is what I have to do. It’s time to have my say.”
Mr Houston was kicked out of UKIP in the run-up to the 2005 election for his views on prostitution.
But he remains adamant there is nothing wrong with using the services of a prostitute, saying: “We urinate, we defecate and we seek to copulate. No-one would criminalise the first two, so why criminalise something that is a basic human need and is being carried out between two consenting adults?”
When questioned about the fact that some prostitutes may be forced into that line of work and are therefore not consenting, Mr Houston would only say: “It’s a good question, I’ve not got the answer to that one just now.”
The only other candidates who have officially announced their intention to stand are Conservative councillor Graham Simpson, SNP hopeful John McKenna and the Greens Kirsten Robb.
The last possible date for a General Election is Thursday, June 3, 2010.
