Police issue security warning after series of factory break-ins

POLICE are warning businesses to be on their guard after a series of break-ins in the College Milton area.

A factory unit in Glenburn Road was targeted between 7.30pm on Sunday, February 22, and 8.30am the following day.

An intruder gained access to the yard of the premises and entry was forced although nothing was taken.

A second incident took place in nearby James Watt Place between 5.30pm on Thursday, February 26, and 7.20am on the Friday.

Entry was gained by forcing open a door and a quantity of garage equipment was stolen.

Also, between 5pm and 9pm on Friday, February 28, a door was forced open at a property in Dixon Place although nothing was taken from within.

Police are continuing their investigations and are studying at CCTV footage and forensic evidence.

Sergeant Barry McGinlay said: “We would urge all owners of factory premises in the area and throughout East Kilbride to make sure that their security systems are in operation and that their premises are locked at all times when there is no member of staff present.”
