‘Wanderlust’ took EK travellers just around the corner

THE family of travellers who set up home in Kelvin Industrial Estate have kept their promise to move – by flitting to a new site less than half a mile away.

The News was told last week by a member of the family that they would be going “wherever the wind took them.”

And it transpires that was just around the corner to a site right next to Sainsbury’s distribution centre.

We revealed last week that South Lanarkshire Council had issued a notice on the travellers to quit their previous temporary home at Langlands Court, which was next to a number of businesses.

Some workers there have expressed their disgust at some of the mess left behind by the travellers, including soiled nappies, fire-damaged land and animal faeces.

Sainsbury’s revealed that the travellers’ new site, although just yards away from a depot entrance, is not actually on their land, and the company declined to comment.

South Lanarkshire Council also insisted the land was not theirs.

Last week workers at Langlands Court said they had experienced no problems with the travellers. However, one worker said: “When you see the mess it’s ridiculous. There are plenty bins and skips, there’s no need for soiled nappies and animal mess to be left.”

NEW HOME: travellers have moved onto a site near Sainsbury’s distribution centre.

LEFTOVERS: workers criticised the mess left at the travellers’ former site.
