Teacher from Oz
PUPILS and staff at St Leonard’s Primary School were delighted to welcome a visiting head teacher from Australia to their school this week.
Mark Moloney is principal teacher of St Patrick’s Koroit, a school in a growing community with a population of just 1500.
The school has a roll of 145 pupils.
Mr Moloney is one of 20 head teachers from a group called the Diocese of Ballarat who are currently travelling around Europe on a study tour visiting schools and examining the different practices of teaching.
The special guest from Australia had a busy day which started with a school Mass.
Next up was a tour of the school and a question and answer session with some of the pupils.
Later on in the day, Mr Moloney enjoyed listening to the school choir and watching a writing lesson.
He then attended a rehearsal for the school show before meeting with the school’s One World group who focus on citizenship and Fairtrade.
After the school day had finished he met with parents to speak about how they get involved with their children's schooling.
St Leonard’s Primary School head teacher Des Timmons told the News:
“It was a really busy day which was interesting for both Mr Moloney as well as us.
“We established that in the main we work in similar ways and also have similar problems and issues.
“It was a good day that we all enjoyed.”
