A GROUP of fifth year pupils at Sanderson High School are delighted to have achieved health and hygiene certificates through the RHIS programme with the council’s department of Environmental Health.
Under the guidance of Home Economics teacher Mrs McRae, the pupils carried out a two-day programme of work, which saw them visit a professional working kitchen in order to gain their certificate.
The pupils were then re-visited at the school and tested on the skills they had learned and were all delighted to pass the test.
The qualification means the pupils can now prepare food for school events, and to mark the occasion they worked hard on Christmas cakes, which they sold at a recent event in the school.
There was much competition to purchase the cakes which meant the pupils were able to raise a total of £130.
The cash will be donated to the Kenyan school that Sanderson High sponsors.
